Title: The One and Only Ivan
Author: Katherine Applegate
Illustrator: Patricia Castelao

The book is about a gorilla named Ivan that was taken from the wild when he was young. He now lives in a cage in the parking lot of a mall.
Ivan does shows at 2, 4, and 7 o’clock daily. His only friends are an elephant named Stella and a stray dog named Bob.
One day when business isn’t going very well the mall’s owner, Mack gets a new baby elephant named Ruby. Stella really likes Ruby. She spends a lot of time coddling her.
The book is organized into chapters. I learned that gorillas can learn to understand humans. I learned that some gorillas can draw.
A question that I had after reading the book was, “What happened to Mack?”
I think the pictures of the elephants look like real elephants. The book has pictures of Bob, Stella, Ruby, Ivan and Mack. The pictures helped because they showed exactly what’s happening. I think the pictures added to my reading experience. They were funny.
I feel that this is a really good book to read. I would recommend it because it is a funny story. It’s a story you’ll never forget. I think people who like adventure and animals would like this book.
I rate this book a 5 because it’s a really good book.
